Dexmedetomidine as an adjuvant to local anesthetics in transversus abdominis plane block: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Clinical Journal of Pain Mar 14, 2019
Sun Q, et al. - Via this meta-analysis, researchers estimated the analgesic effects of dexmedetomidine (DEX) in transversus abdominis plane (TAP) blocks for abdominal surgery. Searching electronic databases, including PubMed, EMBASE, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wan Fang, and the Cochrane Library, they identified 20 published trials including 1212 patients that met the inclusion criteria. AS per outcomes, administration of DEX in TAP blocks, as a potential anesthetic adjuvant, facilitates better postoperative analgesia, reduces postoperative analgesic requirements, and prolongs the local anesthetic effect.
