Dexamethasone or prednisolone for asthma exacerbations in children: A cost‐effectiveness analysis
Pediatric Pulmonology May 15, 2020
Rodriguez‐Martinez CE, et al. - Researchers employed a decision‐analysis model to determine the cost‐effectiveness of prednisolone compared with oral dexamethasone for managing asthma exacerbations in children. A systematic review of the published literature was used to derive effectiveness parameters. This investigation was performed from a Colombian third‐party payer perspective. The avoidance of hospitalization was the main outcome of the model. Findings revealed the cost‐effectiveness of prednisolone, vs oral dexamethasone, for treating acute pediatric asthma in Colombia (a middle‐income country), affording a similar likelihood of hospitalization at lesser overall expenses.
