Device-measured physical activity as a predictor of disability in mobility-limited older adults
Journal of the American Geriatrics Society Aug 16, 2017
Mankowski RT, et al. – The reason for this study was to investigate relationships between objectively measured physical activity (PA) and incidence of major mobility disability (MMD) and persistent MMD (PMMD) in older adults in the Lifestyle Interventions and Independence for Elders (LIFE) Study. Researchers reported that accelerometry–based PA levels were strongly correlated with MMD and PMMD events in older adults with limited mobility. They suggested that accelerometry could be a useful tool for evaluating the risk of mobility disability.
