Development of a comorbidity index to identify patients with small bowel bleeding at risk for rebleeding and small bowel vascular diseases
Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology Aug 23, 2018
Ohmiya N, et al. - Researchers conducted the study for analyzing the comorbidity index for small bowel vascular diseases (SBVD) associated with small bowel bleeding (SBB) and recurrent bleeding. For this investigation, comorbidities were compared between the vascular and non-vascular diseases in 404 SBB patients diagnosed via double-balloon enteroscopy. They established a comorbidity index (Ohmiya index) based on the significant odds ratios and prospectively validated in 83 SBB patients. To manage SBB patients, a tetrameric combination with onset age and the Ohmiya index was helpful. The study findings suggested that this index would help to forecast rebleeding.
