Development and validation of an individualized nomogram for predicting overall survival in patients with typical lung carcinoid tumors
American Journal of Clinical Oncology Sep 04, 2020
Dong S, Liang J, Zhai W, et al. - For patients suffering from typical lung carcinoid tumors, researchers wanted to construct as well as validate a nomogram prognostic model using a large patient cohort from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database. Independent prognostic factors were clarified using univariate and multivariate Cox analysis. Age, sex, T stage, N stage, and bone metastasis, identified via Cox analysis as independent variables for overall survival [OS]) were used to create the nomogram model for predicting 3- and 5-year OS. As revealed in receiver operating characteristic analysis, the areas under the curve in the training and validation cohorts were 0.824 and 0.795 and 0.812 and 0.787 for 3-year and 5-year survival prediction, respectively. Overall, in addition to bridging the gap for optimization of personalized medicine, the proposed nomogram conferred maximization of predictive accuracy in OS prediction of patients with typical lung carcinoid tumors.
