Development and initial validation of calculated tumor area as a prognostic tool in cutaneous malignant melanoma
JAMA Dermatology Jul 01, 2019
Saldanha G, et al. - In this retrospective cohort of 1,239 patients (median age of 60 years) with melanoma, researchers determined calculated tumor area precision and prognostic ability. Investigators found that the calculated tumor area had a relatively greater independent prognostic ability than the Breslow thickness. Melanoma stratification into groups based on calculated tumor area had better prognostic ability vs the Breslow thickness based T category. These results indicate that priority should be given to the calculated tumor area for investigation in order to check its prognostic ability and evaluate its applicability and acceptability in routine practice.
