Detrusor acontractility after acute spinal cord injury: Myth or reality?
The Journal of Urology Jan 19, 2018
Bywater M, et al. - During this study, experts inspected if the detrusor was acontractile during the acute phase of spinal cord injury (SCI) by evaluating the urodynamic parameters in patients with neurogenic lower urinary tract dysfunction, within the first 40 days after SCI. Previously, detrusor was believed to be acontractile during the acute phase of SCI. However, this study demonstrated unfavorable urodynamic parameters within the first 40 days after SCI in approximately two-thirds of the patients. Owing to the fact that early treatment of NLUTD in patients with acute SCI possibly improved the long-term urological outcome, findings recommended that UDI ought to be performed timely for optimizing the patient-tailored therapy.
