Determining the validity of the outpatient arthroplasty risk assessment tool (OARA) for identifying patients for safe same-day discharge after primary shoulder arthroplasty
Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery Dec 09, 2020
Polisetty TS, Grewal G, Drawbert H, et al. - This study was sought to ascertain the OARA score threshold for same day discharge (SDD) following shoulder arthroplasty and investigate its efficacy in selecting patients for SDD. Between April 2018 and October 2019 researchers conducted a retrospective review on 422 patients who had undergone a primary anatomic or reverse shoulder arthroplasty. The findings reveal a preoperative OARA threshold of ≤ 110 is effective and conservative in screening patients for SDD following shoulder arthroplasty, with low rates of 90-day emergency room visits and readmissions. To distinguish patients that are not good candidates for SDD, this threshold was found to be a beneficial screening tool.
