Determining the incidence of pneumocystis pneumonia in patients with autoimmune blistering diseases not receiving routine prophylaxis
JAMA Dermatology Nov 15, 2017
Amber KT, et al. - The incidence of Pneumocystis pneumonia (PCP) was comprehensively analyzed in patients with autoimmune blistering diseases receiving no routine prophylaxis. It was determined that routine Pneumocystis prophylaxis for patients with autoimmune blistering diseases was not warranted.
A lower risk of PCP was displayed in patients with an autoimmune blistering disease than the general population of immunosuppressed dermatology patients. Hyperkalemia, hypoglycemia, photosensitivity, thrombocytopenia, and rarer adverse reactions were included as the risks of routine prophylaxis.
