Determining the cancer diagnostic interval using administrative data in a cohort of patients with pancreatic cancer
Journal of Clinical Oncology Sep 26, 2021
Karim S, Paterson B, Kong S, et al. - Using population-based administrative data, researchers examined a cohort of patients with pancreatic cancer to ascertain the first encounter in the diagnostic interval and to determine that interval using an empirical approach.
A retrospective, cohort study of a total of 3,142 patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC).
A wide range in the diagnostic interval was observed, with 10% of patients having a diagnostic interval approaching 1 year.
A longer diagnostic interval was observed in correlation with a higher Elixhauser comorbidity score (+18.57 days/ 1 point increase) and stage 3 disease (+22.55 days).
