Determinants of undergoing thyroid cancer screening in Korean women: A cross-sectional analysis from the K-Stori 2016
BMJ Open Apr 08, 2019
Cho HN, et al. - According to Andersen’s behavioral model, researchers analyzed recent thyroid cancer (the most common cancer among Korean women) screening rates and factors correlated with thyroid cancer screening over the last 2 years for women. A total of 8,697 women between 20 and 79 years of age without cancer were included. Data revealed that the rate of thyroid cancer screening was 39.2% over the last 2 years. Women who were screened for breast or cervical cancer (recommended nationally for Korean women) vs those who were not were more likely to be screened for thyroid cancer. Thyroid cancer screening was positively linked with older age, higher household income, high school education level and higher perceived risk of cancer in multivariate models. Awareness about the benefits and risks of screening for thyroid cancer may require targeted intervention.
