Determinants of positive temporal artery biopsies in the Veterans Health Administration national database cohort
Arthritis Care & Research Apr 04, 2019
Chung SH, et al. - Investigators reviewed 3057 pathology reports to study the outcome of temporal artery biopsy (TAB) post-fixation length, laterality, age, and previous prednisone exposure on TAB positivity. They noted a significant relation of the likelihood of a positive TAB with TAB post-fixation length greater than 3.0 cm as well as with bilateral biopsy in one sitting. They also found that positive TAB was significantly correlated with age higher than 71 years. They, overall, observed no impact of prednisone administration up to and beyond 42 days preceding TAB.
