HIV/AIDS - Research and Palliative Care Jan 08, 2020
Legesse Tesemma A, et al. - Via this cross-sectional study on 391 randomly selected people living with HIV (PLWH) who were attending highly active anti-retroviral therapy (HAART), researchers sought to determine the quality of life among these PLWH from public health facilities of Arba Minch town, Southern Ethiopia, in 2019. Three hundred ninety-one participants were selected using a systematic random sampling technique in these public health facilities. Of these, nearly half exhibited the poor quality of life. The poor quality of life of PLWH was noted to be associated with high CD4 count, lack of social support, depression, and perceived stigma. They recommend encouraging PLWH to participate in structured social support systems, such as associations of people living with HIV and mother support groups, in order to promote their social and psychological health. Attention should be given to counseling on chronic care adherence and nutritional support in the health system to improve the quality of life of PLWH receiving HAART.
