Determinants of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
Infection and Drug Resistance Aug 15, 2017
Assefa D, et al. – Authors here aimed at identifying determinants of multidrug–resistant tuberculosis (MDR–TB) in a cohort of patients managed in two referral hospitals of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, between April 1, 2013 and June 30, 2013. Findings revealed following independent determinants for MDR–TB: contact history with a known TB patient, previous history of TB treatment, history of hospitalization, sputum–smear positivity, and social stigma. Thye suggested considering these factors for use in MDR–TB screening tool development if universal drug susceptibility testing is not possible. In addition, they recommend further strengthening TB infection control practices in health care settings.
