Determinants of excessive weight loss in breastfed full-term newborns at a baby-friendly hospital: A retrospective cohort study
International Breastfeeding Journal Mar 28, 2020
Miyoshi Y, et al. - Researchers investigated the factors linked with excessive weight loss, defined as weight loss of ≥ 10%, in breastfed full-term newborns in Japan via performing a retrospective study in a tertiary perinatal center accredited as a Baby-Friendly Hospital including neonates who were born alive with a gestational age of ≥ 37 weeks. Among 399 newborns, excessive weight loss was observed in 164 (41%). The adjusted multiple regression analysis revealed excessive weight loss in association with an older maternal age, primiparity, and antepartum caesarean section. Earlier supplementation with artificial milk could be considered for the newborns at risk.
