Determinants of breastfeeding initiation among mothers in Sydney, Australia: Findings from a birth cohort study
International Breastfeeding Journal Sep 23, 2017
Arora A, et al. - Researchers sought to determine the incidence of breastfeeding initiation among women in South Western Sydney, and the factors related to the initiation of breastfeeding. Findings suggested that implementation of breastfeeding promotion programs should target women with lower levels of education, who consume alcohol during pregnancy, have more than one child, and make infant feeding decision after becoming pregnant, and those born in Vietnam. In addition, additional breastfeeding support was needed post-delivery in those who delivered by caesarean section. Breastfeeding related decisions should essentially include fathers and they must be encouraged to participate in antenatal programs.
