Detection of gastro-oesophageal reflux in the Neonatal Unit
Acta Pediatrica Mar 30, 2018
Rossor T, et al. - This study aimed to assess if a pH probe or multichannel intraluminal impedance (MII) more frequently detected gastro-oesophageal reflux infants in whom reflux was suspected. Researchers also explored the hypothesis that acid reflux was related to lower baseline impedance. It was inferred that the clinical suspicion of reflux was frequently incorrect and reflux was more frequently identified via a pH probe. Findings demonstrated that the inverse relationship of acid reflux to baseline impedance was indicative of the mucosal disruption possibly arising from acid reflux in this population.
