Desirability of personalized guns among current gun owners
American Journal of Preventive Medicine Jun 13, 2019
Crifasi CK, et al. - In 2016, U.S. gun owners were interrogated via a nationally representative online survey, to examine their desirability of personalized guns. The focus was laid on their knowledge and perceived chance of buying a personalized gun and concerns about the technology and cost. In 2018, analyses were undertaken. The features related to respondents who reported being likely to purchase a personalized gun were determined using logistic regression models. Researchers found that modest interest in purchasing personalized guns with radio frequency identification technology was shown by current gun owners. A 50% higher chance of being a likely purchaser was seen among respondents who reported safe storage practices for all their guns. A 52% higher probability of being a likely purchaser was noted in respondents whose storage practices were impacted by a gun safety training course. Due to more safety consciousness reported in gun owners interested in personalized guns, the potential advantage of personalized guns in these homes could be limited.
