Depth of invasion as a predictor of nodal disease and survival in patients with oral tongue squamous cell carcinoma
Head & Neck Dec 13, 2018
Tam S, et al. - Authors ascertained the optimal cut-points of depth of invasion (DOI) for detection of occult disease and survival in patients with oral tongue squamous cell carcinoma. They used multiple logistic regression and multivariate Cox proportional hazards models to evaluate predictors of occult nodal disease and overall survival (OS) and disease-specific survival (DSS). At 5 years, for OS and DSS, the DOI cut-point for detection of occult nodal metastasis was 7.25 and 8 mm. An independent predictor of OS and DSS was DOI. They noted occccult nodal disease in 55 (26%) of the 212 patients.
