Depressive symptoms and risk for sudden cardiac death in stable coronary artery disease
The American Journal of Cardiology Jun 19, 2018
Lahtinen M, et al. - Stable coronary artery disease (CAD) patients (n=1,928) were investigated regarding the association between depressive symptoms and the mode of death, including all-cause mortality, non-cardiac death, sudden cardiac death (SCD), and non-SCD. Patients underwent a clinical examination including screening for depression symptoms with the Depression Scale (DEPS) and risk profiling at the baseline. No association of DEPS with non-SCD or non-cardiac deaths was observed. Irrespective of clinical risk factors, depressive symptoms showed association with an increased risk of SCD in patients with CAD. Thereby suggesting the import of depression screening and additional interventions to lessen depressive symptoms in these patients.
