Depression in type 1 diabetes and risk of dementia
Aging and Mental Health May 18, 2019
Gilsanz P, et al. - Researchers used Cox proportional hazard models to assess the link between depression and dementia in nearly 3,750 individuals with type 1 diabetes (T1D) aged ≥ 50 years in order to ultimately determine if depression confers risk for dementia among elderly individuals with T1D. The aforementioned link was assessed upon adjustment for demographics, glycosylated hemoglobin, severe dysglycemic episodes, stroke, heart disease, nephropathy, and end-stage renal disease. According to findings, a significantly increased dementia risk was observed in relation to depression in people with T1D.
