Depression in cirrhosis – A prospective evaluation of the prevalence, predictors and development of a screening nomogram
Alimentary Pharmacology and Therapeutics Dec 03, 2018
Buganza-Torio E, et al. - Using the Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview (MINI), researchers identified prevalence, predictors and depression outcomes and developed a screening nomogram for use among patients with cirrhosis. Cirrhotic outpatients 18-80 years of age who were not on antidepressants were enrolled consecutively from liver clinics in three tertiary care hospitals. The investigators found that depression was common in cirrhotic patients and is related to adverse outcomes, including a lower health-related quality of life and a higher degree of physical frailty. Overall, the developed clinical nomogram appears promising for the rapid screening of depression in this study population.
