Depression and risk of hip fracture: A systematic review and meta-analysis of cohort studies
Osteoporosis International Apr 16, 2019
Shi TT, et al. - Data were analyzed to assess the relationship between depression and hip fracture (HF) along with its potential susceptible groups. A higher risk of HF was noted in subjects with depression when compared with non-depressed cases. They found the association relatively stable according to sensitivity analysis. They also reported that the studies not adjusted for confounders like an antidepressant, BMD, calcium intake, and smoking, had higher overall HR vs the studies adjusted for the corresponding confounding factors. More incidences of HFs were recorded in European and male depression cases.
