Dental implants in patients with Sjogren's syndrome: A case series and a systematic review
International Journal of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Mar 06, 2019
Chrcanovic BR, et al. - A total of 712 implants among 186 candidates were studied to quantify the clinical consequences of dental implants in outpatients with Sjogren's syndrome (SS). They recorded that 19 subjects underwent 107 implants and were followed for about 125 months. They noticed a failure rate of 2.8% as 2 cases lost 3 implants. They calculated a mean marginal bone loss (MBL) after 30 years of 4.39 mm with MBL of −2.190 ± 1.384 mm at the last follow-up. They observed a comparative lower implant failure rate of 2.5% among primary SS cases as compared to secondary SS patients ie, 6.5%. They conclusively suggested dental implants, a viable treatment choice for subjects with SS due to a fairly low failure rate.
