Dendritic cells and monocyte subsets in children with Gaucher disease
Pediatric Research Jan 22, 2021
Zahran AM, Saad K, Abdallah AM, et al. - Since limited data on the frequency of monocyte subsets and dendritic cells (DCs) in children with Gaucher disease (GD) are available, as almost all previous studies included adult patients, researchers conducted this case-control study to explain changes in these cell subpopulations in children with GD type 1 (GD1) who had been on routine enzyme replacement therapy. The sample consisted of 25 children with GD1 and 20 healthy controls. Children with GD1 have significantly decreased total and classical monocyte frequencies, with declining percentages for both types of dendritic cells. In pediatric patients with GD1, such changes may contribute to immunological abnormalities.
