Demographics, comorbid conditions, and outcomes of patients with nonuremic calciphylaxis
JAMA Dermatology Feb 20, 2019
Altman K, et al. - Researchers estimated the data at the University of Washington hospitals to study the demographics, comorbid conditions, and outcomes of subjects with nonuremic calciphylaxis (NUC) ie, calciphylaxis (calcific uremic arteriolopathy) without kidney disease. They noticed an association of NUC with hyperparathyroidism, malignant neoplasm, alcoholic liver disease, and autoimmune disorders. They also found an increase in the risk of NUC due to exposure to some remedies like corticosteroids. It was assumed due to possible effect to the receptor activator of nuclear factor-κB, receptor activator of nuclear factor-κB ligand, or osteoprotegerin, which were involved in regulation of extraskeletal calcification.
