Demographic predictors of head and neck cancer survival differ in the elderly

The Laryngoscope Sep 13, 2018

Massa ST, et al. - Researchers ascertained if demographic prognosticators of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) survival differ between age groups, looking especially at the growing elderly demographic. Findings suggested that these patients should be considered as a separate subgroup with unique epidemiology, risks, and preferences. In the older cohort, they noted an association of male sex with lower mortality, and unlike the younger cohorts, black race was not related to mortality. Findings indicated an association of marriage with lower mortality in all age groups, but with fading effects.
