Demographic and treatment variables influencing outcome for localized paratesticular rhabdomyosarcoma: Results from a pooled analysis of North American and European cooperative groups
Journal of Clinical Oncology Nov 19, 2018
Walterhouse DO, et al. - A pooled analysis was carried out to identify demographic characteristics and treatment variables that influence the outcome of paratesticular rhabdomyosarcoma (PT RMS). In 12 studies carried out by five cooperative groups, researchers retrospectively analyzed the effects of nine demographic variables and four treatment options on event-free survival (EFS) and overall survival (OS). Eight hundred and forty-two patients were included with localized PT RMS who registered between 1988 and 2013. They suggested that localized PT RMS has a favorable prognosis. Unfavorable prognostic features were age ≥ 10 years at diagnosis and tumor size larger than 5 cm. The surgical evaluation of regional nodes is significant in patients aged 10 years and in patients with N1 nodes because it affects EFS.
