Delta neutrophil index for the prediction of the development of sepsis-induced acute kidney injury in the emergency department
Shock Sep 23, 2019
Kim JH, Park YS, Yoon CY, et al. - In this retrospective, observational cohort investigation, researchers determined whether sepsis-induced acute kidney injury (AKI) and 30-day death in patients with severe sepsis or septic shock can be effectively predicted by delta neutrophil index (DNI), which reflects the fraction of immature granulocytes. Participants were prospectively integrated in a critical pathway of early-goal-directed therapy /SEPSIS. Overall participants were 346 in total. Higher DNI values were identified as independent predictors of severe AKI development and 30-day death in sepsis. Thirty-day mortality was independently predicted by severe AKI development. DNI affords a tool for quick determination of sepsis severity and initial treatment strategies without additional expenses and effort.
