Delayed initial radioiodine therapy related to incomplete response in low- to intermediate-risk differentiated thyroid cancer
Clinical Endocrinology Jan 20, 2019
Li H, et al. - In this retrospective review, researchers assessed the impact of the initiating time of radioiodine (RAI) therapy on response to initial therapy in 235 consecutive patients with low- to intermediate-risk differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC). In addition, univariate and multivariate analyses were carried out to identify factors related to incomplete response (IR). Both T status and N status, stimulated thyroglobulin, and time intervals were important risk factors for IR by univariate analysis. Multivariate analysis showed that the time interval was an independent risk factor for IR. According to findings, delayed initial RAI therapy (≥3 months after thyroidectomy) correlated with incomplete response in low- to intermediate-risk DTC patients.
