Delay in patients suspected of transient ischaemic attack: A cross-sectional study
BMJ Open Mar 05, 2019
Dolmans LS, et al. - Via conducting a survey at two rapid-access transient ischemic attack (TIA) outpatient clinics (Utrecht, the Netherlands), researchers evaluated current patient and physician delay from onset of suspected TIA symptoms to specialist consultation. From the onset of symptoms to the TIA service visit, the median time was 114.5 hours. The median time for the TIA service visit from general practitioner consultation was 40.8 hours. Overall, findings demonstrated significant delays in the process of obtaining a confirmed TIA diagnosis for patients and physicians, leading to suboptimal prevention of early ischemic stroke.
