Deformation analysis of myocardial layers detects early cardiac dysfunction after chemotherapy in bone marrow transplantation patients: A continuous and additive cardiotoxicity process
Journal of the American Society of Echocardiography Sep 05, 2017
Paraskevaidis IA, et al. – Researchers tried to find out whether conventional, three–dimensional, and myocardial deformation echocardiography indices can detect early cardiac dysfunction in patients after bone marrow transplantation. The data indicated that myocardial deformation analysis detected early and progressive subclinical cardiac dysfunction in bone marrow transplantation (BMT) patients. At 12–month follow–up, impaired left ventricular (LV) global longitudinal strain (GLS) had predictive value for the detection of abnormal left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF). Therefore, myocardial deformation study should be used early after bone marrow transplantation to prevent irreversible cardiac dysfunction by appropriate treatment.
