Defining the contribution of chronic kidney disease to all-cause mortality in patients with type 2 diabetes: The Renal Insufficiency And Cardiovascular Events (RIACE) Italian Multicenter Study
Acta Diabetologica Mar 28, 2018
Penno G, et al. - During this trial, authors sought to define the contribution of chronic kidney disease (CKD) to excess mortality in patients with type 2 diabetes. They also aimed to determine the baseline variables associated with all-cause death in those with and without CKD using the RECursive Partitioning and Amalgamation (RECPAM) method. Findings demonstrated that CKD was a major contributor to excess mortality in type 2 diabetes. It conferred a very high risk in younger patients and fully accounted for excess risk in the older ones. It was inferred that higher albuminuria and lower estimated glomerular filtration rate, even in the normal range, detected the subjects with increased mortality risk.
