Findings reveal that diabetes has an association with an increase in a multitude of postoperative complications and in hospital length of stay, in patients undergoing plastic surgery. They suggested evaluating and addressing diabetes status when counseling patients preoperatively. Risks could be further stratified based on insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) versus nonÂinsulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM)status.
