Deferiprone exerts a dose dependent reduction of liver iron in adults with iron overload
European Journal of Haematology May 15, 2019
Binding A, et al. - In this single-centered, retrospective, cohort observational study, researchers assessed how liver iron concentrations in adult iron overload patients were influenced by deferiprone dose. They examined 71 patients who received deferiprone doses up to 113 mg/kg/day between January 2009 and June 2015 for a median of 33 months. No increased risk of agranulocytosis or neutropenia was found in relation to the use of deferiprone at >90 mg/kg/day but more effective liver iron control was definitely observed in iron overload patients.
