Deep neck space abscesses in children below 5 years of age and their complications
International Journal of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology Apr 01, 2018
Jain A, et al. - The outcomes and complications of deep neck space abscesses in children less than 5 years of age over a period of 15 years were incestigated by the authors. They found that prompt surgical management and intravenous antibiotics could help in managing the pediatric deep neck abscesses. High risk of complications was seen in the children less than 2 years of age, and those with multiple abscesses or retropharyngeal abscess. Staphylococcus aureus was the most common organism isolated in the pus. Findings suggested the incidence of methicillin resistant S. aureus (MRSA) to be 9%. In 10% patients complications were noted.
