Deep infiltrating endometriosis: Can magnetic resonance imaging anticipate the need for colorectal surgeon intervention?
European Journal of Radiology Nov 16, 2019
Brusic A, Esler S, Churilov L, et al. - A total of 122 preoperative pelvic MRIs in women with laparoscopically-proven deep infiltrating endometriosis (DIE) and following surgery (2006-2015) were recognized, and retrospective cohort analysis conducted in order to recognize MRI features related to colorectal surgical bowel resection for treatment of DIE. MRI features correlated to colorectal surgical intervention were presence of an MRI bowel lesion, MRI bowel lesions ≥ 20 mm in length, MRI bowel lesions invading the muscularis or submucosa/mucosa layers. Thus, this study determines MRI peculiarities that have possible diagnostic utility in recognizing the need for colorectal surgical intervention in individuals with DIE.
