Decreasing cytokeratin 17 expression in head and neck cancer predicts nodal metastasis and poor prognosis: The first evidence
Clinical Otolaryngology Jun 07, 2018
Xu ES, et al. - Authors probed the diverse and unique expression patterns of Cytokeratin 13 (CK13) and Cytokeratin 17 (CK17) and evaluated the role of CK17 as a predictor for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) metastasis and prognosis. Findings suggested predominant expression of CK13 in non-cancerous tissues and it was seen to be lost in HNSCC. The first evidence regarding the possibility of CK17 under-expression to be a potential predictor of nodal metastasis and adverse prognosis was provided in the findings. Also, on Kaplan-Meier survival analyses experts noted the association of a lower CK17 expression with a poorer survival connotation in HNSCC patients with 10-year follow-up.
