Gholibeigian Z, Izad M, Daneshpazhooh M, et al. - In the present study, the researchers sought to evaluate the serum levels of interleukin (IL)‐6, IL‐17, IL‐23, and TGF‐β in pemphigus vulgaris (PV) patients and compare the outcomes to the healthy controls. The enzyme‐linked immunosorbent assay successfully determined serum levels of IL6, IL‐17, IL‐23, and TGF‐β in 27 newly diagnosed PV, 32 patients in remission, and 29 healthy controls. The mean serum levels of IL‐17, IL‐23, and TGF‐β serum have been demonstrated to be significantly different among PV patients and healthy controls. New PV patients were found to have lower serum levels of IL‐17, IL‐23, and TGF‐β as compared with healthy controls. No major difference was observed with respect to IL‐6 between the healthy controls and the other two groups of patients. IL‐17, IL‐23, and TGF‐β participate in PV pathogenesis. However, it takes further research to explain their exact functions in PV immunopathogenesis.
