Decreased expression of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha indicates unfavorable outcomes in hepatocellular carcinoma
Cancer Management and Research Jul 05, 2018
Xiao YB, et al. - Researchers determined the role of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor α (PPARα) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). They obtained 804 HCC specimens, constructed a tissue microarray, and carried out an immunohistochemical analysis. They determined the prognostic value of PPARα expression levels by performing Kaplan–Meier analysis. Findings showed decreased PPARα expression in HCC samples. In HCC patients, a correlation was observed between high PPARα expression and longer survival times. Moreover, high PPARα expression was identified as an independent factor for better outcomes in these subjects. PPARα expression seems to be a promising biomarker for prognostic prediction and a potential therapeutic target for HCC.
