Clinical Endocrinology Oct 06, 2017
Ceccato F, et al. - This prospective proof-of-concept study was performed to evaluate salivary cortisol rhythm in outpatients with adrenal insufficiency (AI), in order to provide new insights regarding the management of glucocorticoid (GC) treatment. In patients with AI, the reduction of GC treatment resulted in better control of daily cortisol rhythm, measured with salivary cortisol, and in an improvement of diastolic blood pressure (DPB). To ascertain if salivary cortisol could be used as a biomarker to manage GC replacement therapy, further studies were required.
