Decision to delivery interval and associated factors for emergency cesarean section: A cross-sectional study

BMC Pregnancy and Childbirth Mar 26, 2021

Kitaw TM, Limenh SK, Chekole FA, et al. - Researchers herein assessed the decision to delivery interval and linked factors for emergency cesarean section via performing an institution-based cross-sectional study at Bahir Dar City Public Hospitals, Ethiopia. In 20.3% of emergency cesarean section, they observed decision-to-delivery interval below 30 min. Following factors were noted to be significantly linked with the decision to delivery interval: referral status, time of day of emergency cesarean section, status of surgeons, type of anesthesia and transfer time. Findings overall suggest no achievement of decision-to-delivery intervals within the recommended time interval. Hence, they emphasize providers and facilities to be better prepared in advance and ready for rapid emergency action in order to address institutional delays in emergency cesarean section.
