Death or near-death in patients with obstructive sleep apnoea: A compendium of case reports of critical complications

Subramani Y, et al. - Risk factors for perioperative critical complications in obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) patients were explored in this study, using available literature data. During the initial 24 h post-surgery, OSA patients were found to be at risk of critical complications including death. Risk factors for death or near-death events included morbid obesity, male sex, undiagnosed OSA, partially treated/untreated OSA, opioids, sedatives, and lack of monitoring.
