De-novo nonalcoholic steatohepatitis is associated with long-term increased mortality in liver transplant recipients
European Journal of Gastroenterology & Hepatology Jun 07, 2018
Gitto S, et al. - The effect of metabolic disease on cardiovascular and neoplastic risk and survival were evaluated in this examination. Between 2000 and 2005, data from patients who underwent transplantation in two Italian transplant centers were investigated. For predictors of de-novo nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), cardiovascular events, de-novo extrahepatic cancers, and survival, Cox regression analysis was performed. Using the Kaplan–Meier method, survival analysis was completed. It was observed in the findings that post-transplant NAFLD represented a strong risk factor for cardiovascular atherosclerotic disease and solid extrahepatic cancer. On the other hand, de novo histologically proven NASH was an independent predictor of long-term mortality.
