D-Dimer and thrombus burden in acute pulmonary embolism
The American Journal of Emergency Medicine Jan 24, 2018
Keller K, et al. - In this work, the influence of right ventricular dysfunction (RVD), deep venous thrombosis (DVT), and high-risk pulmonary embolism (PE)-status on D-Dimer-levels was assessed. In addition, the effectiveness of D-Dimer to predict RVD in normotensive PE patients was determined. In PE, thrombus burden was found to be correlated with elevated D-Dimer levels. In normotensive patients, D-Dimer values >1.18 mg/l were observed to be the predictors for RVD. Cancer, pneumonia, age, or renal impairment had no influence on D-Dimer levels, however, DVT was influencing the D-Dimer levels.
