Cystoid macular edema with prostaglandin analogue use after uneventful cataract surgery in glaucoma patients
Journal of Cataract & Refractive Surgery Oct 04, 2019
Fakhraie G, Mirghorbani M, Katz LJ, et al. - In this prospective randomized clinical trial, researchers assessed the impact of postoperative latanoprost administration on central macular thickness (CMT) following uneventful cataract surgery in glaucoma patients. Glaucoma patients treated with latanoprost who did not have any other risk factor for the development of pseudophakic macular edema were assigned randomly to the continuation of latanoprost or discontinuation of the drop following uneventful cataract surgery. The trial was completed by 156 eyes. There were no differences between the two groups in the baseline demographics or features of patients, including the CMT. Findings suggested that latanoprost administration had no measurable effect on macular thickness after cataract surgery.
