Cystic brain metastases had slower speed of tumor shrinkage but similar prognosis compared with solid tumors that underwent radiosurgery treatment
Cancer Management and Research Feb 28, 2019
Wang H, et al. - Comparison of survival between cystic and solid brain metastases was done and assessment of risk factors for overall survival after brain metastases (BMOS) was performed in patients who underwent radiosurgery treatment. They used the Kaplan–Meier method and multivariate Cox regression analysis to compare survival time and evaluate risk factors for BMOS. Patients with cystic and solid brain metastases who underwent radiosurgery showed no difference in prognosis and local control. However, in cystic brain metastases, lower rate and speed of tumor shrinkage were evident after radiotherapy. Shorter survival time was noted for patients with larger brain metastases, irrespective of cystic or solid brain metastases.
