Cyanide poisoning is a possible cause of cardiac arrest among fire victims, and empiric antidote treatment may improve outcomes

Kaita Y, et al. - The frequency of cyanide-induced cardiac arrest in fire victims was investigated and the necessity of early empiric treatment for cyanide poisoning was assessed. Based on the findings, fire victims could present with cyanide-induced cardiac arrest more frequently than previously believed. In cases where cardiac arrest is of short duration, early empiric treatment with hydroxocobalamin could improve outcomes for these victims.
