Cupping for patients with chronic pain: A systematic review and meta-analysis
The Journal of Pain Jan 30, 2020
Cramer H, Klose P, Teut M, et al. - Via performing this meta-analysis, researchers investigated the effectiveness and safety of cupping in chronic pain. Searching PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Scopus through November 2018, they included 18 randomized controlled trials (n = 1,172) in this work. Most of these trials were limited by clinical heterogeneity and risk of bias. As per this meta-analyses, cupping produces large short-term effects on pain intensity compared with no treatment but has no significant effects compared with sham cupping or other active treatment. Compared with no treatment and other active treatment, cupping yielded medium-sized short-term effects for disability, but this was not true when it was compared with sham cupping. Results indicate the possible utility of cupping as a treatment option.
