Cumulative incidence of orofacial manifestations in early juvenile idiopathic arthritis: A regional, three‐year cohort study
Arthritis Care & Research Jun 04, 2020
Stoustrup P, Glerup M, Bilgrau AE, et al. - In a 36‐month regional cohort study, researchers estimated the cumulative incidence of arthritis‐induced orofacial symptoms, dysfunction, and dentofacial deformities in growing people with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) and identified predictors for the development of arthritis‐induced dentofacial deformities. Data were collected from the Aarhus JIA temporomandibular joint cohort register, which contains standardized, longitudinal, observational data on orofacial conditions in JIA patients (n = 1,040). In this study, follow-up data from 351 patients were included for 36 months. At first clinical examination, median age was 6.6 years (interquartile range 4.8–9.9 years). Orofacial conditions were commonly observed in JIA individuals, and were reflected in this regional analysis in all JIA subcategories. At the 36-month follow-up, one-third of the patients had arthritis-induced dentofacial deformities which needed orthopedic appliance care.
